The II Republic was a period of splendor of political caricature driven by the increase in graphic elements in the daily press as a means of attracting the public. In this stage several generations of cartoonist of high-quality and creativity also converged. The republican press developed a visual discourse for propaganda purposes, based in the use of symbols and metaphors easily understandable to readers. The resources used in El Liberal, Heraldo de Madrid and La Voz were very varied and contributed to the creation of a proper image of the political representatives of the time that, in the case of Manuel Azaña, was even used as a comercial claim.
