Abstract

During the liberal revolution, law and politics held back any kind of female aspiration to improve their legal status. Stripped of citizenship for the convenience of men, subjected to men within the family and instructed for household chores, criminal law confirmed this situation, albeit in a contradictory manner. When developing the situations that could entail crimes or misdemeanors, or the corresponding penalties, sometimes it was held that women's physical and mental aptitudes were inferior to those of a man, and in others, however, the head of the family's honor prevailed over any other consideration.
