Abstract

In Colombia, it is a historical tradition to celebrate july 20 of each year as “The day of Independence”, a commemoration that since its inception has been unknown by some and discussed by others: the choice of this national holiday was a decision of the Government national in the year 1873 under the government of President Manuel Murillo Toro, who instituted it without argument other tan national unity. His detractors maintain that this date really was a provincial feat of Cundinamarca, which did not convene the nation as a whole.
