Before being recognized as the author of the theory of the national sovereignty, Sieyès was known as the author of the theory of the limited sovereignty. Those lawyers of the Group of Coppet (particularly Benjamin Constant and Germaine de Staêl) were very influenced by his political thought. But this influence can also be found in the 1900 year doctrine, when he is finally conceived as one of the fathers of the liberal school, and an heir of Montesquieu. The French doctrine of Public Law in the 1900 years, tried to show Sieyès as the main author of the national sovereignty theory, and has recognized the real dimension of his thought through the theories of representation and constituent power.
