Abstract

Moisei Ostrogorski’s work on North American and English party organizations (1903) has been considered a foundational stone by political science in the second half of 20th century and beyond. The current article discusses the genealogic character of such a approach, arguing that Ostrogorski was also a jurist. His biography, his research on women’s rights and even his political science oriented work on parties, all show that the Russian author made use of juridical tools. In addition, the readings of its work by French jurists contemporary to him, show the problems of looking to the past by the lens of current disciplinary divisions.
