Abstract

Abstract: In the first years of XIX century in Spain, the concepts of Religion and Politics
appear strongly linked both from the personal point of view and the institutional one. The
aim of this work is that of demonstrating that in this period of time the use of history is
mainly focused on addressing the wishes of reform and the religious expression of Spanish
politicians. To reach this goal we analyze, among other questions, how the intellectuals
elaborated the concept of religious tolerance and its compatibility with their own liberal
principles.
