Abstract

The “Junta General del Principado de Asturias” was an original institution of the Old Regime, which represented the local interests within the province of Asturias. In 1808, when Fernando VII was in Bayona and Spain had no King, the Junta was transformed in a Sovereign institution, with a brand new composition, becoming a revolutionary assembly which collided with other institutions of the Old Regime, such as the Audiencia. After being broken up by the Marqués de la Romana, was lately replaced by the “Diputación Provincial”.

Marta Friera Álvarez, Universidad de Oviedo

Doctora en Derecho. Becaria de investigación en el área de Historia del Derecho y de las Instituciones de la Universidad de Oviedo. Su participación en cursos y congresos y sus publicaciones se han centrado en la historia de las instituciones político-administrativas en el tránsito del Antiguo Régimen al Liberalismo, con especial atención a las asturianas. Es autora del libro “La Junta General del Principado de Asturias a fines del Antiguo Régimen (1760-1835)”, trabajo galardonado con el premio Juan Uría Ríu 2001 de Historia y Cultura asturiana.
