The formation of the political class in the Spanish liberalism. Analysis of the public offices in the “Trienio Liberal”

Abstract

This article tries to study the social origin of the public offices during the “Trienio Constitucional” in Spain (1820-1823). The data that support this text have been obtained from a census of 880 people, including deputies, ministers, counsellor of State, province political chiefs, secretaries of political chiefs, members of the province councils, mayors and council secretaries.

Juan Francisco Fuentes Aragonés, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Doctor en Historia y profesor titular de Historia Contemporánea de la Universidad Complutense. Ha sido profesor invitado de la Université de Provence. Es autor, entre otros libros, de José Marchena. Biografía política e intelectual, Historia universal del siglo XX (en colaboración con E. La Parra) y Luis Araquistáin y el socialismo español en el exilio. Es director, con J. Fernández Sebastián, del Diccionario político y social del siglo XIX español (Alianza Ed.), de próxima aparición.
