Abstract

Is it possible to have a republic without citizenships? This is the main question of this article, which tries to be answered showing the democratic political experience of Buenos Aires during 1820-1826. This experience shows how a republican and democratic system can grow in an unfavourable social and cultural context.

Marcelo Martínez Soler, Universidad de Buenos Aires

Profesor de Historia graduado en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (1992). Investigador becario de la Fundación “Centro de Estudios Políticos y Administrativos" de Buenos Aires (1992-94), docente del Instituto de Comunicación, Publicidad y Periodismo de la Universidad Católica Argentina (1995-99), y de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas (1997-99) y del Ciclo Básico Común (1997-2000) de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Actualmente, becario del Postgrado en Historia de la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
