Abstract

Jovellanos was one of the main thinkers of the Spanish Enlightenment. This article studies his constitutional thought, mainly his concept of “Historic Constitution” that was later used by the “realistas” deputies in the Corts of Cadix. This concept was in fact showed by Jovellanos in some of his first political writings (ca. 1780), but was specially explained in the political reports written when his was a member of the Spanish “Junta Central”.
